A recruitment agency's contact book, tested.

Harkness and Vale is a fictional 40-person recruitment agency in Leeds. Their book holds 5,000 candidate and client contacts, gathered over eight years. Some are gold. Some moved on long ago. Here is what happens when they send it to us.

Beat 01 · Day one

The free scan shows the shape.

They upload the 5,000 contacts as a spreadsheet export. No card, no call. Within a day the scan comes back with the shape of the book: how many look active, how many look stale, how many are duplicates of each other. No detail yet, just an honest first look.

Beat 02 · Week one

The assessment shows what moved and what would bounce.

The full test runs every contact. 312 addresses would bounce if mailed today. 187 contacts show signs of a possible role or company change, and each flag comes with its evidence, so Harkness and Vale confirm every one themselves. Everything lands in new fields in their sheet. Nothing they wrote is touched.

Beat 03 · Week two

The assessment record arrives.

A dated record of the test: what was checked, when it was checked, and what the evidence showed for each verdict. When a client asks how current the agency's book is, there is now a plain answer to show them, with a date on it.

Beat 04 · One quarter later

The watched list catches the moves early.

The book does not sit still. Over the quarter, 23 watched contacts show signs of a possible role or company change. Each flag arrives with its evidence, the agency confirms the ones that matter to them, and a candidate who quietly became a hiring manager gets a well-timed call.

One book, one quarter, in counts.
